Volunteer Opportunities

Surfrider is not a Surfing Club

We are a grassroots environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education.

There are many varied opportunities for anyone to volunteer at Surfrider Foundation's Mendocino Coast Chapter.

Consider where you fit into one of Four basic levels of activism

Executive Committe - Core Volunteer - General Volunteer - General Membership

Executive Committe - The Executive Committee is comprised of Chapter Chair ,Vise Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. These positions are voted into position by the General Membership and hold that position for a term of one year. Any active member may nominate themselves or other active members for positions on the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing the on going business of the chapter, reporting to Surfrider Headquarters, coordinating and focusing Core Volunteers. This is accomplished by quarterly meetings of the Executive Committee which is open to all active members.

Core Volunteer - The Core Volunteer is one who sees opportunity to make a difference and is internally motivated to make change happen. They have the ability to focus on their task and can organize material and people power to create awareness for an effective campaign. A Core Volunteer will team up with other Core Volunteers working on a specific campagin. They will create a plan to implement desired change. They will organize General Volunteers, put out promotion information and create events to accomplish their mission. They stay well informed on the state of their campaign and report to the Executive Committee.

General Volunteer - The General Volunteer is one who wishes to make a difference through accomplishing specific tasks as outlined by Core Volunteers heading up a specific campaign, such as hosting a table, phone tree calling, working an event, set-up or clean-up. A General Volunteer may work on one campaign or several different campaigns. They have a specific set of skills geared to assist Core Volunteers in their missions.

General Membership - The General Membership supports the activities of the Chapter by retaining an active membership status and the paying of annual dues and making special donations which helps maintain the Surfrider Foundation.
