Minutes – Surfrider Meeting Oct. 8, 2005 3:30 pm

Present: Walt, Jackie, Bill Watson, Angela, Andy, Jack C., Julie, Victoria, Wyatt

Minutes of previous meeting approved.

Treasurer’s Report – Jackie – No financial activity since last meeting.

Chapter Status Review – Walt talked to Ed Mazerella. Our article will be published in the next issue of “ Making Waves.” Our charter is up for approval at the Board Meeting the month.

Membership – Currently 65 members in Mendocino County..

Blue Water Task Force – Surfrider volunteers, Jackie, Jack C., and Victoria have been water testing in cooperation with the county. Most tests OK. Bad tests at Pudding Creek (lagoon) and MacKerricher (ocean). Faulty sewer pipes caused pollution at Pudding Creek. Pipes should be repaired before new construction at Airport Rd. We hear there is a good possibility for funding to continue for water testing into January.

Ocean Safety Committee – Bill reported that Surfrider has joined the Mendocino County Water Safety Coalition. PSA’s will continue. The brochure is being revised. There will be a fundraising dinner at the Mac house the 1st week of March.

Coastal Access / Virgin Creek – Status remains the same. A disclosure of public access is included in the real estate listing. The trail would be moved to the south side of the property in the event the property is sold to a private party.

Blues Beach Parking – Walt reported for Bill Cull. CalTrans owns upper segment of parking area next to Hwy 1 and due to concern for erosion and loss of vegetation has closed off this area for parking. It was suggested that an explanation be posted.

MacKerricher / Lake Cleone Ocean Outlet – Victoria reporting. We agreed to organize a crew to dig out the channel and request permission to do so. A tentative date was set for Nov. 5th and 8:00am.

Burl Wood Wave Fundraiser – Jackie and Wyatt have created posters to accompany the Wave sculpture by Kevin Berg. The first location will be “Hidden Treasures” in Mendocino. This will be our second fundraiser and membership drive for the year.

Annual Party/Fundraiser/Memebership drive for ’06 – Short Flicks. A Surf Movie film festival, to include locally made surf movies. We propose a limit of 10 to 15 minutes each, contributed by 5 or 6 people. We can prescreen and choose. Hold the event at the Senior Center if possible. Julie will check into dates. Other suggestions, food, vintage boards on display

Andy has offered us a page for Surfrider on his Website:go-surfer.com. Thanks!
